Beginning Encaustic Painting
Beginning Encaustic Painting - explore an ancient medium in our contemporary world
Since Jasper Johns reintroduced encaustic painting to the modern world, artists have explored and pushed the boundaries of this medium. This first workshop, three hour workshop, is designed for absolute beginners. You will learn the basics including which substrates are best, how to prepare and apply paint to the substrate and the best ways to fuse the paint onto the board. You will also be introduced to the many qualities of the paint including opacity, translucency, and texture. During the workshop, Martha will demonstrate several techniques, provide feedback as you work and take time for the group to speak with each other about what they are learning and what direction they might take the work. No prior experience necessary. All materials included. Minimum workshop fee $210, for three people including all materials. Additional guests $60 per person.
